Bannatyne, 68, is this year expected to marry his 37-year-old fiancée Nigora Whitehorn. Bannatyne, a former panellist on the BBC's Dragons' Den and a contestant in 2015 on I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here!, met Whitehorn at a Harley Street dental practice where she worked as a receptionist. He recently announced he was launching a business to renovate properties in the Algarve where he has a holiday home. Bannatyne grew up in Clydebank and left school at 15. After a spell in the navy he bought an ice-cream van before moving into property, care homes and a nursery chain. Along the way he made £48m from sale proceeds, married twice and had six children. His Bannatyne’s gym network made profits of £11.6m on £112.2m sales in 2016 and his Darlington-based hotels operation earned a £1.2m profit in 2015, its best year so far, although a planned £300m float of the business was pulled at the last minute. Many causes have benefited from donations by his charitable trust, including Romanian street children and the Haiti earthquake. The increase in profits and new details of a £10m property portfolio justify a £25m rise for Bannatyne.
