The Duke of Buccleuch and family

Higher repair and maintenance costs, poor weather and a slower period for the duke's forestry arm were blamed for a "challenging year" for Edinburgh-based Buccleuch Estates. Buccleuch, 63, presides over more than 215,000 acres across the south of Scotland and an 11,200-acre Northamptonshire estate, built up over 700 years. There is also a thriving commercial property operation with sites throughout Scotland and England. Buccleuch's father left £320m in his will and he inherited Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries and Galloway in 2007. We raise the 10th Duke, who is close to being eclipsed as Scotland's largest landowner by the Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, to £213m.
