Eric Herd and family
Farmfoods began as a meat processor during the 1950s, and in the 1970s opened its first butcher’s shop in Aberdeen. Today the Cumbernauld-based operation specialises in frozen food and has more than 300 stores. Herd, 60 later this month, inherited the business from his father, and its profits remained steady at £20m in 2015. Sales slipped to £694.4m, but with a solid balance sheet and £87.2m net assets the company is worth £205m. We add £30m for dividends and other interests to the golf-loving Herd, who runs the firm, and his family. Farmfoods sposnsors the annual British Par 3 Championship.
