Trond Mohn and Marit Mohn Westlake
As Norway's top taxpayer, Mohn pays his dues "with joy”, stumping up £30m in 2015 on earnings of £84m. "I have no regrets. I am privileged and am proud of my contribution, and proud to contribute to the community," he said. Mohn and his family are known for their philanthropy, including a $135m gift in 2014 to a Norwegian research foundation to advance cancer research. Born in Buckie, in Scotland, the 74-year-old owns one of Norway's leading industrial fortunes along with his sister Marit, 70, who lives in London. Their fortune is derived from Framo, a company making cargo pumps for tankers, started by their late father Frank in 1938. The family sold it to the Swedish industrial giant Alfa Laval for £1.1bn in April 2014 on the cusp of a collapse in the oil and shipping industries. The pair are valued at £1.62bn by the 2016 Norwegian rich list in Kapital magazine.
